Rose Gardening

A couple weeks ago the groundhog predicted an early spring and I have been thinking about gardening ever since. This year I would like to put in some more roses. I have a few David Austin roses that I love for fragrance but the stems have so many thorns on them that they really aren’t practical for a cut flower and I would like to have bouquets of roses in my living room so I am researching roses and have decided to devote one of my raised beds to hybrid tea roses.

I also have a couple climbing roses; one of them is planted at the end of the porch that doesn’t get any sun and I’d like to move it in the early spring to the other side of the porch. I will need Al to build me a trellis for it to climb on.

If anyone has any suggestions as to “must have” roses please email me or let me know in my comment section.

Snow Day

We had snow all day today so I stayed home and was feeling kind of creative so I made a couple bandanas for the dogs and then cut out a cover for one of my wicker chairs. I have a wicker chair out in Megan's room that doesn't exactly match the rest of the furniture so with all the talk everyone on the shabby cottage list is doing about making slip covers, etc. I got motivated to figure out how to make a cover for my chair. If it works and I ever finish it I might just get motivated to cover the chairs of my porch furniture.

The photo is Stewie modeling one of his bandanas, I made some for Rusty too.

Hey Cheerleader!!

Today was the last men's home basketball game at SU for the season. Molly is a freshmen there and on the cheerleading squad. The cheerleaders were pretty good today. They did some pretty cool formations at half time.

Molly sang the National Anthem in front of a packed crowd at the O. W. Houts gymnasium this afternoon. I was quite proud of her. She did a great job, her voice was strong and clear and she didn't rush the song and all the notes were correct! I get very nervous when she sings. Its a good thing they do the National Anthem first because then I can enjoy the game!

So I was a proud mamma today!!

The photograph is of the freshmen on the squad. Molly is 2nd from the right.

Rearranged

Yesterday I rearranged the furniture in the living room. There is a chance Al will be working in Alaska for a few months starting sometime in March and I already have plans to make some changes in the Sunroom while he is gone. He watches TV out there and so I don’t want to do anything till he leaves, but the minute he’s out the door…..I’m on that project. I’m thinking about some paint in the dining room too! Hmmm six months might be a long time to be alone (she says as she thinks of lots of changes she can make).

Inspired to paint

I’ve decided that I would like to give my home more of a shabby cottage look to it. First off, I need more white in this house, white, pink and more roses. I have been practicing my painting technique all week and am confident enough to try it on an end table.

So this is the finished product, I changed it from red to white, the photo isn't that great but the table has a crackle finish to it. It might be a bit to white next to the chair.
